----- Peyote & Delica -----

In the last month, I have learned alot about the peyote stitch and about delica beads. First, if you use 4 lb. Fishing line, even though it is very thin and goes through the beads easily, it tends to cause the pattern to curl terribly. Second, the colors, in my bead pattern program, do not match the delica bead colors very well. So I am in the process of setting up the colors myself.

When I discovered that the 4lb fishing line would not work, I asked Billie, of Wicked Oak Designs ( http://www.wickedoakdesigns.com ), to bead up one of my patterns with regular beading thread and to my amazement, the thread did not show through very much when hung in a window. The only places you really see it is where it is tied off on the sides. To see images of this completed piece, go to...

As I did not have any regular beading thread at home, I decided to go see what I could find at Wal-mart. I did not find any beading thread there, but I did find something I was not expecting. In the sewing section I found Transparent Nylon Thread (AKA Invisible Thread). "Wow," I thought. "This is great!". I love using fishing line when beading and this was the perfect substitute. I now do all my peyote/delica patterns with size .005.

----- Peyote Instructions -----

You may remember that I had discovered a way to start Peyote with 2 needles. This made the first 3 rows much easier for me to do. I was going to write up these instructions and make them available to all, but I found someone else beat me to it. Here is a page where you can get these instructions...

Go about half way down the page to: Two-Needle Start: Take the tension out of starting a peyote stitch By Barbara L. Grainger

Here you will see exactly what I was going to write up (and more).
