Faceted Bead Art Gazette January 2, 2006 Issue #0026 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I create my patterns with 4mm Faceted Round beads in mind. But I have found that just about any bead will work. The only requirement is that the beads must be, over all, the same size. ![]() Beads [top to bottom, left to right]: 10/0 Seed Beads, 3x10MM Daggers, 4MM Discs, 4mm Cubes, 5x3MM Pinched Ovals, 6MM Hearts, 4x6MM Bell Flowers, 6x4MM Rice, 6MM Crackle Round, 6MM BiCones, 6MM Pearl Coat, 8x9MM Pearl Coat Snail Shell, 8MM Round If you choose to use a different type of bead, you will need to remember that the size of the piece will change (4mm beads are equivalent to 6/0 size beads). When using beads that are of a shape, such as heart shape or bell flowers, you will want to add your beads so that each one is going in the same direction. (Ex. this way >>>>>>>> not ><>>><<> ) Cathie, of tica daydreams, recently mentioned Med Emerald to me as a Crystal Bead color. I looked everywhere for this color, but was unable to find it. I asked her where she got it, and when I visited the site she mentioned I was still unable to find it because I was looking under 4mm Round. Then I did a search for the color and found it was only available in the BiCone beads. Having already tested my stitch on other bead types, I decided to look more closely at the Swarovski Crystal BiCone Beads. I found they were almost 1/3 the price of the Swarovski Crystal Round Beads. They came in 4mm and were faceted, so I began beading with them and found they worked perfectly and were just as beautiful as the Round beads. As I do enjoy saving money, I decided to figure up the price difference between my Plastic Faceted Beads, the Swarovski Crystal BiCone Beads and the Swarovski Crystal Round Beads. I knew my plastic beads would come out the absolute lowest price, but I wanted to see how they compared anyway. So, here are my findings... 4mm Round Plastic Faceted Beads at http://www.facetedbeadart.com/beadery-faceted-bead.html 120 pieces - 0.36 - .003 per bead 850 pieces - 2.28 - .0027 per bead 4mm Swarovski Crystal BiCone Beads at http://www.firemountaingems.com/crystal_beads.asp 48 pieces - 2.83 - .059 per bead 144 pieces - 6.94 - .0484 per bead 4mm Swarovski Crystal Round Beads at http://www.firemountaingems.com/crystal_beads.asp 12 pieces - 2.00 - .167 per bead 144 pieces - 17.92 - .125 per bead I usually have my Crystal beads shipped USPS Priority Mail and the cost comes to about $6.50 for Shipping and Handling. So, I make sure to purchase $30.00 or more worth of beads to keep the shipping cost per bead down. You will want to play around with the different shipping options to see what gets you the best price. (The plastic beads prices include shipping, but have a $20 Minimum Order Requirement or a $1.75 Small Order Fee will apply.) More New stuff. I just recently figured out a way to make small and large pendants, as well as earrings. I am hoping to have some patterns up for these by February 1st, so keep your eyes peeled. I hope everyone had a Wonderful Christmas and that the New Year brings you many wonderful things, Shell, Bead Artist - FacetedBeadArt.com Back Issues... http://www.facetedbeadart.com/back-issues.html New Patterns... http://www.facetedbeadart.com/bead_craft_faceted_pattern.html How To Tutorials... http://www.facetedbeadart.com/instructions.html BeadCoop... http://www.thebeadcoop.com designer: FacetedBeadArt.com New at FacetedBeadArt.com... http://www.facetedbeadart.com/bead-art-updates.html Yahoo Group... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FacetedBeadArt/
