----- The Diagonal Right Angle Weave -----

I coined this phrase, since my patterns use the right angle weave but are worked diagonally. This simply means that the rows in my patterns are on a diagonal, instead of straight up and down. The stitch used is the right angle weave. However, you do need to know how to increase and decrease as these techniques are used at the end of each row - in my square patterns.

Recently, I found others have also used this phrase, but the stitches are slightly different. This discovery was made when a friend of mine was browsing BeadWork.about.com's forums. There a lady was asking how to do the diagonal right angle weave for a necklace in the August issue of Bead & Button Magazine. One of the responses was from Chris Prussing, the author of Beading with Right Angle Weave. She offered a link to her own diagonal right angle weave necklace pattern.

As I love my diagonal right angle weave, I just had to see the similarities and differences in our techniques. So I went to Bead & Button's web site and found they had the pattern available as a download ($3.95), and I got it. Then I used Chris's link and purchased a copy of her pattern.

----- What I Discovered -----

I found that the pattern in the Bead & Button Magazine could be beaded up and down using the right angle weave everyone knows, but the designer created a challenging way to bead it diagonally. Hence, it is a diagonal right angle weave.

Chris's pattern, I found, is actually like my patterns, but she created a way to bead it working straight up and down by doing small diagonals back and forth up the pattern.

Of these two techniques, I would recommend Chris', it seems easier to understand. The one in the Bead & Button Magazine, I would recommend for those beaders who like to do things differently and want a challenge. And, of course, I hope you all come to enjoy using the right angle weave to create FacetedBeadArt just as much as I do.

I have provided tinyurls for some of the longer URLs as Yahoo sometimes breaks up long links and this can make them not work properly.
