I made this cross about 10 years ago for Christmas. As it is somewhat 3-D, I had not thought of creating a pattern for it. Well, I recently had a request for a cross ornament and decided to make the pattern. As this is somewhat 3-D, I had some difficulty writing up the instructions for this Christmas craft. The instructions are for the 2 needle RAW (which is my favorite), but I had some difficulty with the 3-D parts. Therefore, I am providing it to you at only $1.00 (PDF download). Once I have perfected the instructions the price will be increased to $3.95 (PDF download) If you purchase it at the $1.00 price and send me feedback that helps me with the rewriting of the instructions, I will give you any pattern (your choice) FREE.
When I started this Christmas craft, I was planning to make small doilies as snowflakes, but my husband didn't think they looked enough like snowflakes. Suddenly I got an idea and quickly went into the other room and created my Christmas Snowflake. When I showed it to my husband, he was amazed at how quickly I had put it together. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to write up the instructions for this Christmas craft. I was creating them with the 2 needle RAW (which is my favorite), but I could not see how to write the instructions. Just recently I thought maybe the 1 needle version would be easier to write instructions for. I was right, so here are my Christmas Snowflakes for you to create.
This Christmas pattern comes to you from my good friend Tammy Chevalier and her family. Here is a note from them... * * * * * Hello Beaders, I was working on this idea last year, but got lost in other projects. This year, I had more than enough time so I wanted to share it with all of you. When my first daughter started school, she came home in early December with a set of Christmas Rings. I asked her, "Are those to go on the tree or to decorate the house?" She replied, "No, I take one ring off each day until Christmas. This is why the ring at the top is made with Christmas paper." I told her, "Really. You mean you count down the last days to Christmas?" She replied, "Yes." Well, with my youngest feeling left out, I purchased some construction paper and made her a Countdown to Christmas Rings. The following year, my youngest brought home from school her Countdown to Christmas Rings. And again, I purchased some construction paper to make another for my oldest. But the story doesn't end there. The following year, while my girls were in school, I made up Christmas Rings for the both of them. Only, I added a little something special for them. Each ring contained a wrapped piece of candy that I glued on. So each night, after dinner and before they went bed, they each got to take a ring off and have a piece of candy. Now keeping in mind that once the paper was removed it went into the trash bin, last year I was trying to think of something more permnament that could also be passed down from one generation to the next. This is what I have come up with. My girls pointed out one problem. The candy pieces. How are they going to be attached to the rings? Well, since these rings are now beaded, and are to be used each year at Christmas, we do not want to ruin them, so now the candy pieces will go into a bowl or even a small bag with their names on them. Each night when they untie a ring, they will reach into their bag of candy and choose one. My girls like this idea of Christmas to give to their kids when they have a family so they voted yes on the idea and the pattern. So, from our family to yours, we present to you "Countdown to Christmas" in beads and may you and your family enjoy this Christmas craft for many generations to come.
