----- The Aspects of Beading -----

Beading is quite popular. According to Overture.com, the word "bead" was searched 112,239 times in just the month of August 2004. "Beading" was searched 12,933 times and "Beaded Jewelry" was searched 17,335 times. That's a lot.

When considering beading, there are several things to look into...

The Stitch
The Pattern
The Beads
The String/Wire
The Supplies (Scissors, Needles, Cutters, etc.)

In this issue, I will be discussing The Stitch and The Pattern.

----- The Stitch -----

At TheBeadCoop (http://www.thebeadcoop.com) the 5 most popular stitches are:

#1 Peyote/Brick
#2 Square/Loom
#3 Netting
#4 Right Angle Weave
#5 Herringbone/Ndebele

In my search and study of the Aspects of Beading, I have found several interesting books and links related to these stitches.

So that you can just view the stitches you are most interested in, I have made a special page for each:

Peyote/Brick - http://www.facetedbeadart.com/peyote-stitch.html
Square/Loom - http://www.facetedbeadart.com/bead-loom.html
Netting - http://www.facetedbeadart.com/bead-netting-pattern.html
Right Angle Weave - http://www.facetedbeadart.com/right_angle_weave.html
Herringbone/Ndebele - http://www.facetedbeadart.com/herringbone.html

I personally have only used the Right Angle Weave. It turns out, the 2 Needle version of this weave is the stitch I have been using all along (with some variations). I am working up some new instructional e-books for doing my patterns in both the 1 & 2 Needle version.

----- The Pattern -----

There are many places on the web to purchase beading patterns. To see a great list, please visit: http://www.facetedbeadart.com/bead-pattern.html

A good beading pattern should include: An easy to follow Graph, a Color Chart and a List of Supplies Needed.

Some will include instructions or links to URLs where you can get instructions (if you need them). This is very useful if you are new to beading or to a particular stitch.

----- To Come -----

I hope to writing more on the Aspects of Beading. If there are any sites that you enjoy using and would like to share, please let me know.

Happy Beading to All,
Shell, Bead Artist - FacetedBeadArt.com
