Beading has grown in popularity over the past decade. With more and more people wanting to join in on the fun, the beading supply industry is at its peak.

With a large array of different beads and accessories to choose from and so many places to purchase them from, it can be a little confusing knowing exactly what is what.

Having the right beading supply when starting out is important. But knowing what you need is the hard part. Below is a short list of the basics every beading enthusiast requires when starting out.

Beads - as this is the most important part of beading you will require numerous beads of all shapes and sizes. Beads range in colour too but having a mixture will allow the ornaments you produce to show off the style to its full potential.

Some beads on the market at the moment are plastic faceted beads, seed beads, glass beads, wood beads, clay beads, shaped beads, patterned beads and beads of every colour imaginable. Any good beading shop should stock a large variety of beads at differing prices.

Threads - these too vary depending on the project you are working on. Threads available at bead shops can range from See-through threads, leather cords, elastic cords, hemp cords, nylon thread and twine like threads.

Needles - come is different sizes and quality. Some are stainless steel while others are plastic. Having a thimble is also useful when beading.

Beading Patterns - with literally thousands of beading patterns around it is difficult to pick the best ones. Having a mixture of patterns for different types of ornaments such as simple necklace patterns, earring patterns, faceted bead patterns and so on are useful if they are at your disposal.

The list of what beading supplies you should carry can be endless but carrying a few of everything means you can continue working and not be halted by missing materials.

Other important supplies to have on board are bails, barrettes, bead caps, bead holders, bead tips, badge clips, clasps, crimp beads, ear wires and hoops, linking rings, jump rings and eye pins.

One of the more popular beads on the market is the plastic faceted bead. With the shape being the major attraction to the bead, they stand out from most other beads, especially on beautiful jewelry pieces.

Plastic faceted beads come in a variety of colours and sizes too.

Beading supplies can be purchased over the internet but searching around for the best price is always recommended. The size of the bead work you are attempting and the frequency you bead, will determine the quantity of supplies you require.

Buying in bulk is always a cheaper way to gain the materials required for beading.
