Step 1

To start beading for newbies, it is recommended that you select an initial project. While doing this beading project you will learn about bead art and develop your skills.

A necklace or bracelet is a great project for a beginner, challenging enough to be enjoyable but simple enough not to be frustrating.

Step 2

Initially, choose a color scheme for your bead pattern. Bead colors are very important. It is vital that they work well together if the bead pattern is to produce good results.

It is also important to remember that beading is not all about the beads, it is recommended that you make a list of all the non-bead items you will need for your bead pattern (for example, thread, scissors and other such tools). Furthermore, ensure that you have all materials, beads and thread in excess, there is nothing worse than getting half way through a bead art project and then not being able to finish.

Step 3

Now that you have your beads and other material ready, it is important to organise them appropriately. Sort the beads into types and place them into separate, well labelled containers. Then do the same for your thread and tools. Good organization is vital! You now have your bead kit and are ready to begin planning your bead art project.

Step 4

It is absolutely critical that you thoroughly plan your beading project. You should do this for every bead pattern you attempt. Perhaps draw a diagram of how you want your finished bead art to look, and then draw what you believe to be the intermediary stages.

This approach to beading is best for the visual learner. If you prefer you could write out a plan for your beading project or even record a plan for a bead pattern onto tape cassette.

Step 5

If you have implemented the above "beading for newbies" steps properly, this should be the easiest and most enjoyable part of your beading project. Simply follow the bead pattern plans that you have made yourself and remember to keep your beads and beading materials organized.

Overall, thorough organization and planning of your beading project are the most important steps to producing a successful piece of bead art.

Good luck and happy beading!
