Olaf Beadwork Patterns - 7 Volume Set

Beading Book Review

Most of the bead work patterns in this book are from Northern Europe. Apparently they are the exquisite bead work techniques of Greenland Eskimos, adapted over centuries by Scandinavian people, namely, the Danes.

The Scandinavian interpretation of the Eskimo bead work, gives the bead patterns a contemporary feel.

Currently, the necessary bead size for the bead patterns contained in "Olaf Beadwork Patterns" (9/0), is not available on the high street in the USA or the UK.

However, it is said that using beads of an alternative size (11/0 is recommended) works just as well for most of the bead work projects in this book, save the ones that are designed to fit over a form.

If you still really do desire your beadwork to be exquisitely authentic you can always order your beads through the Internet. At the end of this beading book review you will find instructions as to how to find beads.

"Olaf Beadwork Patterns" offers a wide range of exquisite bead work patterns, including; key fobs, wall hangings, loom weaving, lamp shades, dollies, collars, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, ornaments and so much more!

The color cover depicts many of the exquisite bead work projects in their completed state, and the two page centre spreads in many of the volumes gives you a further insight.

This book is great for the experienced bead worker, providing you with many new, exciting and exquisite bead work patterns, from all over the globe and from many different eras.

The rarity of the necessary materials simply adds to the uniqueness of the patterns and I am sure that as time goes by these materials will become more accessible and readily available to the bead workers.

Overall, this book gets 8/10. It is certainly not every beaders cup of tea as it were, but this simply adds to my personal affection for it. It is daring, trying out old patterns and modernizing them for the contemporary era.

What is the end product?

Simply exquisite bead work!
