----- Where We Stand -----

When I originally put up my web site 2 years ago, I had wanted to do beaded curtains. However, all the ideas for it had not yet fully developed. Therefore, I put all my energy into making my mural/suncatcher patterns.

In March of this year, it happened. Specific design ideas for beaded curtains started coming to me. I went to work right away.

First, I needed an image. I found a lovely cat clipart and then began the process of adjusting the colors to match my bead colors.

Once this was all done, I worked out the bead count for what I thought would be a 3' x 5' beaded curtain.

Once I had my bead count, I went to work making the pattern. Well, this turned out to be more complicated than I had expected. But after some trial and error, I found a solution.

Finally, it was time to start beading. First I created the top of the beaded curtain. When I had finished it according to my calculations, I noticed it was not as long as I had expected it to be (it was 20" instead of 36"). So, I knew something was going to need adjusting.

I then started the first hanging strand. After completing this first strand, I discovered that it, unlike the top, did measure out according to my calculations. This was very puzzling, and it told me my design was going to come out "scrunched".

Normally, I would have stopped, taken the curtain apart and started over with a new pattern. But because my 5 yr old daughter asked if she could have it, and because, to be honest, I was a little curious about how it would look when completed, I decided to continue beading this "scrunched" curtain.

So now I am finishing up this curtain and, in addition, after making all the necessary adjustments, I have started on a new curtain. The new one seems to be working out just fine and I hope to reveal it in the upcoming contest at TheBeadCoop ( http://www.thebeadcoop.com ). It will be in the 'Designers Only' category.

While I am madly beading two curtains at once, I am also working on the best way to package up the patterns for you. I figured the best way to do this is with your input.

You can help in this area by filling out the Beaded Curtain Survey (is now closed, thank you for your input).

Looking forward to hearing from you,
